MAN Careers: Apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic

Janine

From apprentice to industrial mechanic

How I arrived at MAN

A member of my family suggested that I could do my school work experience with MAN. This gave me a good insight into the work of an industrial mechanic. It was really great that I was able to apply for apprenticeship in the same year.

What I currently do at MAN

Once we had learned the basics of metal and metal processing, we were allowed to start on the first really cool project. Every apprentice builds their own remote-controlled MAN truck. All the individual parts are produced from aluminium using precision manual work. They are then painted and assembled. It was great to work on this.

What I am particularly proud of

I am proud about what I have learned so far. At the start, I had no idea about most things, and now I can already complete most of the tasks myself. As well as the technical things, I also really enjoy the manual work. I like making something myself.

Why I like working at MAN:

I like the fact that when I tell people about my apprenticeship at MAN, everybody knows the company and are interested - and then they drive me mad with questions. I also like the fact that all of us who were industrial mechanic apprentices have now become good friends and get together now and again outside work. This makes working together even more enjoyable.
